Unlike 2009, I'm proud to report that this year I had only pleasant working-relationships with duct tape, axes and electrical wires. The bare patches in my beard have grown back, my limp is almost gone and the dishwasher no longer triggers the smoke alarm.
But, this past year presented me with several more lessons to work on in 2011.
* Regardless of how much I convince myself I can still mix-it-up with students during phy-ed class, a head-on collision with an 8th-grade boy can cause six weeks of uncomfortable sleep and long-term labored breathing.
* Sometimes, a seven-year-old, behaving incorrigibly in front of a crowd at a waterpark does not always mean he's being a brat. It can also mean he's about to throw-up pepperoni pizza and Gatorade all over the rope bridge that dangles just above patrons floating down the Lazy River ride.
* Seeing a "low fuel" warning light flashing on the dashboard will no longer challenge me to see how far I can drive before stopping for gas. (Especially when driving a fully-loaded Suburban with my family, while pulling a camper into a 30 mph headwind in 90 degree heat in desolate central Iowa on the first day of a two-week vacation to the Grand Canyon). ~L

Redneck Recycling
Heating the house with Christmas-generated garbage. If you can tolerate the acrid smoke - packing peanuts, bubble wrap and styrofoam give off alot of BTUs (and CFCs).
